Early waking

Good morning! Its 7am on Saturday, I can see the sun is rising out the window and I have been awake for the past 2 hours or more already.

Darren starts work super early at the weekend so he can get finished nice and early, I often have trouble dropping back off to sleep after his alarm goes off (not always, there are times I don't hear it at all and wake in daylight to a big darren sized space in the bed) especially when I have little baby wiggles in my belly distracting me.

On the plus side, I've stuck on the little electirc heater and stayed in bed watching the last couple of episodes of 3 hungry boys that I'd missed, catching up on blogs and deciding what I am going to bake... once I drag my backside out from under the duvet!

I've decided I'm going to bake a basic loaf, which i'll add some olives and herbs to, and some of these little breakfasty pop tarts. Since seeing them on Emmas Blog, I've seen them a few other places too. I'm planning on making some apple, raisin and cinnamon ones, home made apple & blackberry jam filled ones, and Nutella filled ones too. (Darren will want the Nuttella ones, will have to make lots of those!)
And the best thing? Make a big batch, and freeze them before cooking. You can just grab a couple from the freezer and shove them in the oven for 15minutes for some lovely homemade sweet pastry goodness when the urge takes you.

Guess what our lazy Sunday breakfast will be this week! ;)

I'm Back!!!...

Well hello there... If indeed there is still anyone left out there who ventures onto this corner of the interweb to see if I still exist!
I know I have been a very very bad blogger! I have reasons for this I promise, the past few months have been one of great change for me (and my husband for that matter) and 2012 is going to be full of new challenges, adventures and excitement.

Not least because.....
Yay!! We are expecting our first child! (OMFG! Its still so unreal to us... We did what!! We made a baby! Holy cow, how on earth are we going look after a baby!!)

We are very excited, and of course happy about this new little family member that we shall be meeting later this year. :) (At the end of June, in fact I am due the day before my birthday!)

At the moment we seem to have gone into DIY overload trying to get the house shipshape and sorted for little bumps arrival. As I type this I am laying in bed, in a room with no carpet or other furniture other than a side table which has my light, book and iPod on it (and we have still to completely decide on what colour the room is being painted)

As you can imagine I don't know how regularly I shall update this blog, or for that matter with what subjects I shall update. (I shall certainly do my best not to become a baby bore!) I have a couple of foody items in the pipeline and no doubt endless DIY updates.

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New year, and that 2012 is full of joy and laughter for you all.

See you soon.
Jules xoxo

ps: thats a reeeally old photo! it just happens to be one we keep on our fridge and change the wording when each other are least expecting it. sometimes its nice comments about each other, more often its mickey taking and abuse! ;)

*achoo*

Along with what seems to be most of the people in the UK I am currently a little under the weather and fighting a cold. Thankfully it seems to be at the tail end and is now clearing up. Most of my evenings over the past couple of weeks have been spent curled up in bed or under a blanket on the sofa with a copious amounts of tea!

Now I am feeling better I really need to give myself a kick up the backside, I have recently joined in with a couple of friends and their craft project, its in the very early stages, but I shall share more as it progresses and develops. I have lots of new ideas for my little shop, and I am going to be going full steam ahead with both that and some other things. Exciting times are ahead! :)

The clocks change this weekend so curling up in the warmth of an evening and crafting/making stuff sounds like a great idea to me... Which is just what I am going to do now, my cuppa, crochet and crap telly are all calling me.

Happy Thursday. x

Landed home...

On Sunday we landed back at Luton Airport after a week in Malta.
I really don't like flying, but its rather a necessity if you want to travel. One thing I do *love* about flying is seeing the wonderful scenery out the window. I get so entranced by the scenery it completely takes my mind off the fact we are in a giant tin can in the sky.
The holiday itself was lovely, warm, relaxing and mostly filled with snorkeling, reading and eating. (What's not to love about that!)
I had yesterday off work and instead on unpacking and doing the washing all day, I half heartedly unpacked and then decided to clean the fridge and make jam. (That's totally normal right? Haha)
It was my first attempt at jam making so I didn't take many photos as I was a little unsure how it would turn out.

As it happens it turned out bloody marvellously, and now I am 1- kicking myself for not taking photos, and 2-eating jam at each possible opportunity.
It turned so well in fact that I can't see myself ever buying jam with my grocery shop ever again, so I'll no doubt share future recipes/attempts when the urge takes me. X

Saturday Mornings.

My Saturday mornings generally go like this... Wake up at an ungodly hour, Take my husband to work, Do the grocery shopping...

I am normally at Tesco (other grocery stores are avaliable) for about 6.30am. Today it was more like 5.30, so here are my for's and against's for early Saturday grocery shopping.

Against:
Its early. 'nuff said.
You have to dodge cardboard boxes strewn everywhere on the floor while people fill shelves.
You only have self service kiosks, its not unknown for me to have to go and hunt for someone because I have some alcohol and it wont let me check out.
The days newspapers are not yet out.
Costa Coffee opens at 7, so I don't always get to grab my regular skinny hazelnut latte!
Its early (worth 2 mentions, I am not a morning person)

Fors:
Tescos is empty! I'd rather dodge the cardboard boxes than 1001 other people with trolleys.
Driving. The roads are also empty, I love driving when the roads are quiet, its one of the best things.
The skies on the way home, The sun is just rising on some part of my journey (today, as I got home)
You see lots of bunnies playing on the verges.
And a large gaggle of geese flying over the house (just after I put my camera away typically)
When I get home, and the shopping is away, I can sit down knowing it is all done and I dont need to think about it again for another week and have myself a lovely little breakfast.

Happy Weekend xx

A Few things...

10 things that are on my mind at the moment...

1- I eat too much. My portions are huge, and this is because I am greedy and I want everything for myself.
2 - I love baking, it makes me happy.
3 - Related to the above, have you been watching Great British Bake Off?? Seriously, it my favourite program! love it.
4 - I really should get my name changed on my passport.
5 - It costs HOW MUCH to get my name changed on my passport!! Maybe that'll wait a while.
6 - I love my ombre hair, but I can't afford the upkeep. (dyeing roots and tips different colours is a hassle)
7 - I need to get on with it and dye my hair soon, my roots/grey hairs are glistening in the sunlight.
8 - Gargling with TCP is horrid, but it makes toothache lessen immensely.
9 - I am running out of moisturiser.
10 - I really love lists.

ironically, the place I got the pic is a review of the first episode, which generally rips it to tatters. Whatever, is we all liked the same it'd be a dull dull place. and I like cake. and bunting. so there. x
